Convert Local Mean Time (LMT) To Local Zone Time (LZT)

The LMT of sunrise as tabulated in the Nautical Almanac indicates 06h 00 min. You are at longitude 116 00' E. What will be the LZT of sunrise?

Given:
            LMT = 06 h 00 min
    Longitude = 116° 00' E

What is asked?
                        LZT of sunrise

Solution:

1. Converting arc to time. We have to divide the longitude by 15.

 116° 00' ÷ 15 = 07 h 44 min

2. Since the longitude is east, we have to subtract 07 h 44 min to the LMT. The result of that will be the GMT.

              LMT = 06 h 00 min     ( + 24 hours)
                       -07 h 44 min
              GMT= 2216 H

3. GMT to LZT. 07 h 44 min can now be rounded off to 0800H since the minutes is more than 30. We have to add it to the GMT to get the LZT since the longitude is east..

              GMT = 2216H
                       +0800H
                         3016H
                       - 2400H
               LZT = 0616H
